Mark Krumholz

My research focuses on star formation and the interstellar medium. The big questions I hope to answer are what sets the global rate of star formation in gas clouds and galaxies? What determines the mass distribution of newly-formed stars? What processes control the formation of the most massive stars, which are the dominant source of luminosity in the universe? How long do star-forming clouds live, and what ultimately destroys them? I try to answer these questions using a mixture of analytic investigations and numerical simulations.
