NNG2005: Important Information

POSTERS:
If you are not presenting a talk, you are encouraged to present a poster at the conference. There will be rooms adjacent to the lecture hall for viewing all week. The poster board display area is 45"x48". Please contact nmoore@ucsc.edu if you have questions regarding posters.

TALKS:
Those giving talks should consider the following: There will be Macintosh and PC computers in the lecture hall and both will support Powerpoint and Keynote. We may also provide a laptop supporting OpenOffice. You are welcome (and encouraged) to bring your talk on a memory stick or CD and use our computers. If you prefer, you can use your own laptop with the installed data projector. We will ask that you arrange to have your presentation material ready (loaded and tested for computer files) at least 15 minutes prior to the start of your session. This should be coordinated with your session leader. We would like to present a PDF of every talk on the NNG website.

ABSTRACTS:
If you wish to send in an updated title and/or abstract for your contribution, please send a PDF or text file to nmoore@ucsc.edu by Wednesday, July 28. An abstract book will provided at the conference.

PROGRAM:
A current version of the 'final' program is now found here.

Please note that the conference continues until Friday evening, with concluding remarks by Blumenthal, Faber and Primack ending at 18:10. We hope for everyone to contribute to our homage to the birthday trio with their continued presence and participation until the very end of the conference. Ideally, all the participants will stay in Santa Cruz until Saturday morning.

VENUE:
The beautiful UC Santa Cruz campus is located on approximately 2000 acres overlooking the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary and the City of Santa Cruz. As the terrain can be quite hilly, we recommend comfortable walking shoes and clothing and recommend bringing a sweater or light jacket for those foggy mornings and cool evenings. The daytime hours, of course, will be perfect.

MAPS:
Directions to campus: please see the UCSC web site http://maps.ucsc.edu/cmdirections.html.
Also see this link.

ON-SITE REGISTRATION:
On-campus Conference Office: Located at Porter College (in the Hungry Slug Cafe.) This office is open daily from 7:00am-10:00pm and provides general information about the campus and Santa Cruz. The phone number is: 831-459-1920. An after-hours number will be posted on the door for emergencies.
Registration Hours : Sunday, August 7, 2:00-10:00 pm. People are encourage to 'hang out' in Porter College on Sunday. Modest refreshments will be provided. Dinner is included for those with on-campus housing.
Please note: If you plan on arriving after 10:00 pm, notify nmoore@ucsc.edu so special arrangements can be made to let you in your room. WE DO NOT HAVE A 24-HOUR CHECK IN.
At check in you will receive your room keys, meal card, parking permit (if needed), program information, and conference memorabilia. If you are not staying on campus, you will receive your meal tickets (if ordered), parking permit, program information and conference memorabilia.
Participants will also be able to register on Monday morning next to the lecture hall.

TRAVEL TO SANTA CRUZ:
The San Jose Airport is approximately 45 miles from Santa Cruz and the San Francisco Airport is approximately 75 miles north of Santa Cruz. As parking is limited on campus, we encourage you to arrange for shuttle transportation from either airport. You should make your arrangements ONE WEEK in advance of the conference. In a pinch, you may be able to rent a car one-way from AVIS or Budget. Contact Conference Services if you have a problem.
The following shuttles operate between both airports and Santa Cruz: Tell the shuttle company you are going to UC Santa Cruz Porter College. You may get a cheaper rate if you reserve a round trip and ask for the UCSC conference rate.

CHILD CARE:

REIMBURSEMENT:
For those of you receiving support, please note these guidelines: UCSC travel rules require that original receipts be submitted for the airfare, lodging, rental cars and any expense greater than $75. Please remember that UCSC travel rules require U.S. carriers be used and rental car insurance is not reimbursable.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!
